Screen time that can be earned
Guard is a separate app for parents. You choose apps – videos or games, for example – and set a base time. Whatever your child earns on top in NixTier by learning and moving, Guard releases automatically.
Coming soon. Guard is in the works. Earning bonus time and releasing it yourself already works with NixTier 0.5 or newer – free.
How it works
Learn and move
Your child does maths, reads, solves quizzes and gets out and about. NixTier turns that into bonus time – by your rules.
Collect minutes
Default: 1 learning point = 1 minute, 1,000 steps = 5 minutes, at most 60 minutes a day. At midnight a new day begins.
Release automatically
Guard opens the selected apps for base time plus bonus time and tells NixTier how much of it has been used.
What your child sees
Only good things. NixTier never talks about locks or punishments. Once the time is used, it’s used – tomorrow there’s more.

Privacy in brief
- No server, no account: NixTier and Guard only exchange information on the device.
- The connection is protected – only apps signed with our own key may read the bonus time.
- Only today’s numbers are exchanged: minutes earned and used, the daily maximum, whether bonus time is switched on and whether the subscription is active.
- No answers, no stories, no individual steps, no location.
- Which Android permissions Guard needs will be listed here as soon as it is released.
Setting up
Prepare NixTier
Install NixTier 0.5 or newer on your child’s device and switch on “Bonus time” in the parent area. Adjust the rules as you like.
Install Guard
Install NixTier Guard on the same device as soon as it is available.
Choose apps and base time
In Guard, choose the apps that time should apply to and set the base time per day.
Redeem the subscription
For automatic release, redeem the “Fresh every day” subscription in NixTier. Without it, Guard only releases the base time.
Without Guard – free
Earning bonus time also works without Guard and without a subscription: NixTier shows your child “Show this to your parents”, you release the minutes yourself – for example in Google Family Link – and mark them as redeemed in the parent area.

Automatic release is part of the subscription – together with new stories and quiz questions every day. €4.99 a month or €39.00 a year, cancel any time. The subscription is available for the 6–7 and 8–12 age levels.
